Shepherd Park / Colonial Village

Shepherd Park and Colonial Village border Montgomery County MD.

Welcome to Shepherd Park / Colonial Village

Shepherd
Park and Colonial Village border Montgomery County MD to the north of the city, just east of Rock Creek Park. The neighborhood tends to draw residents looking for a quiet all-residential neighborhood that is family-friendly and community-focused with an easy commute to Downtown DC via car or Metrorail. A Redline metro station in Downtown Silver Spring is within walking distance of the neighborhood. Primarily detached homes cover the area, with Colonial Village homes usually being larger with more generous lots.

Originally Colonial Village offered mostly detached colonial homes. But according to the Realtor's local multiple listing system, Colonial Village includes the area originally named North Portal Estates which has homes built primarily in the 1950s and 60s, with most being ranch, mid-century modern, and contemporary styles.

The area offers homes of varying styles, including Colonial, Tudor, Mediterranean, Mid-century modern, and contemporary. Several grocery markets nearby are popular with residents. You’ll find Giant, Sniders Super Foods, and Whole Foods, all in downtown Silver Spring, but with a new Whole Foods to open soon in DC at the developing Parks at Walter Reed community, bordering Shepherd Park on the south.
